Lamp Shades
A stunning ceiling pendant or lamp shade is a fantastic way to deliver visual impact in your room. Not only can a lamp shade add the final colourful flourish to your room, but can also help to set the mood and ambience.
At Downtown we have a great range for you to choose from. As a general rule of thumb of how to measure your lamp shade - it should be at least double the width of your base, with oversized shades becoming increasingly popular as statement pieces. Lamp shade heights tend to be at a ratio of around 40% shade to 60% base, although this will vary depending on the type of lamp. There are also a few other factors that you should consider when making your purchase:
Consider your room - The size of your room, style of existing décor and colour will all help you to dictate the size of your lamp shade. Would you prefer your shade to stand our to blend nicely into the background?
Primary light source - Are you going to be using this lamp for your primary light source to illuminate a large room, or will you use a fixed ceiling light? If you are buying a lamp shade for a reading light, you will want to buy a shade that allows light to pour through, so is made from a thinner fabric.
The bulb - Make sure the shade your are purchasing is wide enough to accommodate your bulb, providing adequate room to shine through the shade.
We have a range of glass pendant shades that add visual appeal to your room with a modern twist and fabric pendant shades for a warmer, more cosy feel. Our popular, neutral tone cotton tapered lamp shades are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate a number of lamp sizes, meaning you can find just what you are looking for.
