Photo Frames
A photo frame is a quick yet affordable way to bring a wall, sideboard or other area of your room to life. Whether you are taking a minimalist approach with one or two photo frames or prefer to completely redesign an area by covering your wall, you can find a great range at Downtown.
But how do you choose the right photo frame for you? We've answered a few of our most frequently asked questions below to help you along the way.
How do you hang photo frames?
The best and safest way is to measure beforehand. Not only do you need to ensure they are straight but they also need to be placed in the right position on your wall. If you're placing a photo frame alone on a wall, a bookcase or a sideboard, make sure it's one that is easy on the eye. If a photo frame looks 'off', it will upset the natural balance of the room. If you are constructed a collection of smaller photo frames, a good step is to firstly arrange them in a position you are happy with on the floor, take a picture and then use this as a reference. When hanging photo frames on the wall, start from the most central and work outwards, ensuring they are spaced equally apart by measuring every time. It's much better to take your time and get it right than be frustrated by the spacing for the rest of your life!
How do I find the right size?
There is no right or wrong answer to this. A well-loved equation is your photo frame should take up no more than 60% of your space. Eg. an 8 inch frame would be fine in a 10 inch space, but no bigger. A collection of smaller photo frames can work nicely together to bring more depth and character to a room in comparison to using one large image. Modern spaces tend to work better with symmetrical arrangements and clean lines, whilst eclectic interiors can work well with a mismatch of sizes.
What should I display in my photo frame?
Whilst everyone loves a display of personal family photos, don't get stuck with the idea that it is all you can put in your photo frames. Memorabilia is a great option to add to photo frames such as from places you have visited, holidays, days out. Picture frames don't just have to be used to pictures. One popular option is to include quotes as they are cheap and easy to obtain. By combining a range of designs you can really tailor your photos and images to your style; and don't forget photos and pictures can be replaced at any time.
