Divans
What is a Divan Bed? Divan beds are formed of an upholstered box, the exterior of which can be just about any colour or texture you can think of. The materials used and quality of construction can vary widely however, as does their price.
Do Divan Beds Come with Mattresses? Some do, some don’t. If you own a mattress and you’re not looking to replace it, you’ll only need a divan base – not a divan bed set. If you want a divan style bed but don’t own a mattress, or you need to replace your mattress, you have two options: 1. Buy a divan bed set. 2. Buy a divan base, and then choose your mattress separately. If you don’t already own a mattress, then it can often be easier (and more cost-effective) to invest in a divan bed set. You can find all sorts of combinations, including divan bed sets with drawers incorporated underneath.
What Do Divan Beds Cost? Divan beds are often mistakenly thought of as being very expensive. This is the case for some sets, but in reality prices vary substantially depending on factors including: - The size of the bed. - The quality of construction and materials used. - The quality of the mattress (if buying a bed set). - Whether or not there are drawers built into the base (and how many).
Are there different types of Divan Beds? Divan bed-bases tend to fall into two categories: Sprung-Top Divans You can think of a sprung-top as a second, very thin mattress built into the top of your bed-base. It’s designed to sit underneath your mattress for extra comfort. This will also take some of the strain from the springs, extending the lifespan of the mattress. This extra engineering obviously increases cost – with more expensive sprung-tops having springs that run right up to the edge of the bed. Firm-Top Divans Firm-top divans feature a solid top, and are a good match for latex or memory foam mattresses. They’re also suited to those who prefer a firmer feel, and will typically be more affordable than sprung-top divans. Note that firm-top divans are also sometimes referred to as ‘platform’ divans.
Somewhere in the Middle? Some divan bed bases feature springs in the middle and hard edges. These provide a middle-ground, for the comfort and softness of a sprung-top divan at a (typically) lower cost. Divans and Storage Many divan beds feature built-in storage in the form of drawers built into the base.
What sizes are available at Downtown? With a range of leading brands to choose from including Hypnos and Silentnight, you can find the perfect divan for your home. From single divans to larger, upholstered storage divans and ottoman beds, complete your bedroom.
Are Divan Beds worth it? There are many drawer-arrangements to choose from – out of the front of the bed, for instance, or just out of one side. The latter is ideal if the bed’s going to be pushed up against a wall. Divan beds are immensely popular, and for good reason - they look good, are generally more comfortable than mattresses placed on slatted bed frames. They’re also available at a wide range of price points, and can often be better value than buying a bed frame and mattress separately. They’ll also support your mattress for extra longevity and can even provide additional, valuable storage space. What might sway your decision however is aesthetics.
Something that’s true of nearly all divan beds is that they can really dominate a space. If you’d prefer a look that’s a little more unassuming, a separate mattress and bed frame may be more suited to you.
